Stationeers LaunchPad Installer

A small installer for the Stationeers game client (Steam app ID 544550). It installs and updates BepInEx 5.4 and StationeersLaunchPad without admin rights, PowerShell, Git Bash, sudo, or modifications to Steam settings.

This is not for the dedicated server.

Included files

File Purpose
windows/install.bat Native Windows installer; Batch only
windows/start-stationeers.bat Checks BepInEx updates and starts Stationeers through Steam
StationeersLaunchPad-Installer.exe Standalone native Windows installer (release ZIP)
StationeersLaunchPad-Start.exe Standalone installer which then starts Steam (release ZIP)
linux/install.sh Installer for Steam on Linux/Proton
linux/start-stationeers.sh Checks BepInEx updates and starts Stationeers through Steam
manifest/components.env Approved versions, URLs and SHA-256 values

Safety model

The installer locates Stationeers in registered Steam libraries, stages both downloads in a temporary directory, checks SHA-256 and validates the expected archive layout before it changes the game directory. It only manages the Doorstop files, BepInEx/core, and the LaunchPad plugin directory. Existing unrelated plugins, configuration, saves and mods are left alone.

Before changes, the managed files are backed up below .stationeers-installer-backups/ in the game directory. If an installation fails after that point, those managed files are restored automatically. Backups are retained.

The installer stops if Stationeers is running, the game directory is not writable, or the known StationeersMods conflict is found.

Windows

Close Stationeers and extract the release ZIP completely. The recommended option is StationeersLaunchPad-Installer.exe: it is a standalone native Windows program and needs neither Go, PowerShell nor Git Bash. StationeersLaunchPad-Start.exe installs/updates and then launches Stationeers through Steam.

windows\\install.bat remains available as a transparent, inspectable Batch alternative.

Current Windows 10/11 normally already provide curl.exe, tar.exe and certutil.exe; the installer checks for all of them. It does not elevate privileges, so the current Windows user must be allowed to write to the game directory.

For later starts with a BepInEx update check, use windows\\start-stationeers.bat.

Linux / Steam Proton

The installer runs as a native Bash script, but Stationeers itself runs through Proton. It deliberately installs the Windows x64 BepInEx package.

bash linux/install.sh

If Steam cannot be located automatically:

bash linux/install.sh /path/to/steamapps/common/Stationeers
# or
STATIONEERS_DIR=/path/to/Stationeers bash linux/install.sh

Required utilities are Bash, curl, unzip, sha256sum, awk, find, mktemp and cp. The script installs no packages and does not invoke sudo.

In Steam, add this once under Stationeers -> Properties -> Launch Options. Do not replace any existing launch options:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp.dll=n,b" %command%

For later starts with a BepInEx update check:

bash linux/start-stationeers.sh

Updates

LaunchPad keeps control of its own update settings; this package never overwrites an existing LaunchPad configuration. Every installer or launch-helper run also fetches a small approved manifest from this repository over HTTPS. It contains only reviewed BepInEx 5.4 and LaunchPad versions plus their SHA-256 checksums. If it is unavailable or invalid, the bundled manifest is used. The installer never switches automatically to BepInEx 6 or prereleases.

Verify in game

Start Stationeers. LaunchPad should be visible at the bottom of the loading screen. A successful file installation alone does not prove that Steam/Proton loaded the mod loader.

Limits

  • StationeersMods and StationeersLaunchPad should not be installed together.
  • Existing Steam launch options are never changed automatically.
  • The installer searches registered Steam libraries, not every disk.
  • See TESTING.md for the exact test status.

Reproducible Windows builds

A Forgejo Action rebuilds the EXEs on trusted pushes to main and version tags. Its runner is a non-privileged Kubernetes pod without a Docker socket or a Kubernetes service-account token, and it runs only one build at a time. Pull requests deliberately do not trigger work on this runner.
